Monash University, Australia: Admission Entry Guide

Student Visa

To pursue a degree course, an Australia student visa (subclass 500) is required. Unlike a lot of countries, a student visa can be applied for while in Australia or outside Australia.
An international student may apply for a subclass 500 student visa online. Remember, below set of documents should be displayed at the time of visa application.
  • An identification card justifying nationality such as the passport
  • Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE) for the course the student intends to pursue
  • Overseas Student Health Cover (OHSC), valid for the duration of the course
  • Evidence to show that there is enough fund to support one year of education and living
  • Once the application has been submitted, a student might be asked for biometric information such as fingerprints and real-time photograph
The Immigration Department functioning in Australia has the right to know the genuine reason behind you travelling to Australia. Therefore, an international student must comply with the Genuine Temporary Entrant (GTE) assessment wherein a student is encouraged to write down the answer of few questions revealing the purpose of travelling to Australia.

Scholarships Offered to International Students

A list of available scholarships for international students in Australia is mentioned below.
‘Monash International Merit Scholarship’ of AUD 10,000 per annum is offered to students enrolled in full-time undergraduate or post-graduate degree program.

‘Engineering Excellence Scholarship’ is offered to fresh international students admitting to an undergraduate degree programme. Every year scholar is granted AUD 6000 for a maximum of 4 years.

‘Women in Engineering Scholarship’ is specifically granted to eligible international women enrolling to an undergraduate engineering course at Monash University. An amount of AUD 5000 is provided for one-year only. International students pursuing under-graduation engineering course may be shortlisted for ‘Engineering International Undergraduate Scholarship’ based on academic performance. Students receive AUD 10,000 for one-year of studies only.

An international student may also receive ‘Engineering International Undergraduate Excellence Scholarship’ provided the student is proficient in the English language and has acquired academic score equivalent of ATAR 95.00. Every year the scholar is granted with AUD 10,000 for up to 4 years of bachelor engineering course. All these scholarships are available to students studying for full-time at the Monash campus.
